Collection consists of one account book, two daybooks, and two indices recording patients treated by Dr. Timothy Darling (1731-1784) of Grafton, Massachusetts, between 1754 and 1775. The entries list patient names, medicines Darling prescribed, and the fees charged for his services. A common charge was two shillings for a visit and delivery of "sundry medicines." Darling charged four pence to deliver a cathartic, and six pence to bleed a patient. In certain entries, Darling notes the ethnicity or nationality of the patient, such as “Sarah Lawrence, Indian Woman,” and an account for an unnamed "French man." Some accounts include lists and values of foodstuffs like oats and corn, indicating Darling may have accepted payment-in-kind for his services. Volume 4 is an index to volume 1, and volume 5 is an index to an unknown volume.

Timothy Darling (1731-1784) was a physician practicing in Grafton, Massachusetts. He also served as a surgeon in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
