Ledger of Dr. Thomas Ewing (1748-1782), kept between 1776 and 1782, containing lists of patient names, account balances, and payments made, either in cash or barter, to Dr.Thomas Ewing for medicines and medical care. Among Ewing's services included administering vomits and smallpox inoculation. Also includes lists of accounts receivable, cash payments, and articles sold at a private sale from Ewing's estate. The bulk of the ledger is dated after Ewing's death, and it was likely created as part of the settlement of his estate.
Biographical Notes
Thomas Ewing (1748-1782) was a physician practicing in Greenwich, New Jersey. He was also an officer in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
